DGT Notary Nodes are a unique layer of validation formed by special ORACLE nodes held by trust providing organizations. These organizations may be legal firms, audit companies, government organizations, or other such reputable service providers. These organizations validate on-chain information while retaining confidentiality and privacy of sensitive data. Depending on the use case, they support custodial services, non-custodial operations (“done and forgotten” using interactive zero knowledge proof methods), as well as secure multi-party computation.
• Embedded identification: notary nodes keep sensitive identity information (verifiable credentials) securely off-chain, issuing on-chain certificates to allow or prohibit transactions in questions, without making the confidential data available to other participants;
• Off-chain asset verification: regional notaries are used to verify real world asset presence, ownership, value and other criteria prior to them being tokenized on-chain, thus serving to validate the tokenized value and the issuer. This verification of real objects to their digital twins is especially important in such fraudulent and geographically dispersed markets as carbon credits;
• Shielded transactions: performed by notaries in the DGT Athabasca version, featuring full confidentiality of sensitive data exchanges, including addresses of the transaction participants;
• Synchronizing to corporate ERPs: special notary nodes have built-in gateways to corporate ERP systems, to manage some off-chain calculations requiring sensitive permissions or data;
• Managing private segments: notaries may be used as part of a governance mechanism to ensure that any new node (organization) joining a protected segment is validated and receives an X.509 certificate prior to joining.
